Yes, it is a sauna out there right now, but I am referring to the presidential race & the fact that I have NO dog in this fight.
A dear friend who is as staunch a Republican as I once was, today tsk-tsked me for believing in poll numbers. I explained to her that I never put credence in any poll numbers, that in point of fact I am not even invested in which way the race goes.
Let's face it - even if Donald Trump loses, all the Republicans who sold out their once precious principles will be forever compromised, will have handed over the power in the party to the Tom Cotton, the Ted Cruz & Mike Lee wing of the party. If he wins, then the party will FIRMLY be in the hands of the most radical element. In either case, the "country club" (well-educated, relatively well off) conservatives who make up the bulk of my GOP friends will be assuredly on the outside looking in.
I am not going to get my knickers in a twist over a Trump presidency when he will resign in less than a year.
Does ANYONE think that Donald Trump will tolerate living in the White House, a dump compared to Mar-A-Logo or the Trump International Hotel Washington D.C. that will have just opened (Sept 2016!) a couple doors down Pennsylvania Avenue?
Or that he won't be frustrated by how the snails pace way deals are done within the Beltway & between nations?
Won't be falling asleep at Cabinet meetings?
That he's not going to chaff at putting his assets into a blind trust & turn his holdings over to someone else to handle without a smidgen of his involvement?
Come on - I'll be shocked if he lasts into the summer. So why get all whacked out by something that's sure to be short lived?
The problem then will be all the supporters who were heart & soul for Trump, only to find themselves with a well-qualified but fully Establishment Republican sitting behind the Oval Office desk. You think a woman scorned is something to avoid? Imagine hard core conservatives deprived of their savior, left with what they railed & rallied AGAINST?? It ain't going to be pretty.
As for HRC... Well, what can I say about Hillary? If she picks Elizabeth Warren as her vp, she might - might - stand a chance of winning. But even if she does, the far right conservatives who have taken over the GOP will shut her down more utterly & completely than they did President Obama, Instead of claiming that they can't give hearings & a vote to her SCOTUS nominees during an election year, they'll claim that the people demand they wait until
No sense in getting all hyper about anything happening, because our national goose has already been thoroughly cooked. Half of the American citizenry might think that Donald John Trump is a far better choice than the despised reviled demonized Hillary Rodham Clinton. A disbelieving world - remember the world? - sees things differently. They see a seasoned, experienced, flawed but massively capable candidate roundly rejected in favor of a buffoon, a grandiose braggart who has three political speeds - himself, attack & ignorance.
Oh, I'm sure I'll have opinions on what comes along. But feeling invested in the outcome? That dog won't hunt, so don't be looking for me to get all hot & bothered no matter, what might come down the pike.
Yeah, it's hot out, but just chill.
