Speaker of the House Paul Ryan was asked for his reaction to Donald Trump's comments on the Orlando tragedy, specifically those on American citizens harboring terrorists, his suggestive slams that the President of the United States has no interest in fighting terrorism
Speaker Ryan's response - "That’s a loaded question.”
And proceeded to ignore it.
Oh, he encouraged “everyone, including our nominee” to work with House leadership on issues around terrorism & immigration. He announced the repackaging of a number of terror-related bills & applauded Congress for passing legislation to enhance security measures for our visa waiver program.
On making it at least slightly more difficult for possible terrorists to get their hands on weapons of mass destruction? Dead silence.
Same response he had for the reporter who dared ask for his response to his party's presumptive candidate's well-publicized comments. In today's GOP universe, it had "gotcha" written all over it.
When the Speaker of the House doesn't call out the party's assumed candidate for inflammatory, many would say treasonous remarks, why would Donald Trump feel any need to moderate his fiery rhetoric?
It's June 2016 - who is the GOP leader? Who's setting the tone, the narrative? Republican leadership make that crystal clear - Donald John Trump.
