Senator David Perdue, of the great state of Georgia, shared this conservative rib tickler at this week's Faith & Freedom Coalition's Road to Majority conference - “We should pray like Psalms 109:8 says. It says: ‘Let his days be few and let another have his office.’”
Now, this was a crowd of devout Christians, so they know their Bible, know the full passage, which is a death wish for King David's enemies: “Let his children be fatherless; and his wife a widow. Let his children wander about and beg; and let them seek sustenance far from their ruined homes. Let the creditor [seize all that he has; and let strangers plunder the product of his labor. Let there be none to extend lovingkindness to him; nor any to be gracious to his fatherless children. Let his posterity be cut off; in a following generation let their name be blotted out.”
A real knee slapper. At least to Conservative Christians focused on faith & freedom.
In response to "He said what?" inquiries from the media, Sen. Perdue's spokeswoman, Caroline Vanvick, assured one & all that her boss was just wishing the president well, "Senator Perdue said we are called to pray for our country, for our leaders, and for our president. He in no way wishes harm towards our president and everyone in the room understood that."
Oh, I would agree that EVERYONE in the room knew EXACTLY what he meant. All we have to do is look at what he said.
But Ms. Vanvick didn't stop there. She went onto say, "However, we should add the media to our prayer list because they are pushing a narrative to create controversy and that is exactly what the American people are tired of."
And THIS is what shows, without question, the current day conservative roots of Carolyn Vanvick & her boss. Slamming the media for reporting what Sen. Perdue said. How can anyone - let alone a room of Scripture-loving Christians - say what he did & then get twisted & all sanctimonious "let us pray for the media"?
You have to wonder what Jesus Christ would say. My guess is he'd think the same thing that comes to my mind - that the term Conservative Christian is, too many times, turned into an oxymoron.
