Excerpts from The Highland County Press 9/28/2015 2:57:00 PM release:  Portman statement on Continuing Resolution

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) released the following statement ahead of his vote for the Fiscal Year 2016 Continuing Resolution:

“Americans should not have the threat of a government shutdown hanging over their heads, and that is why I will vote today to avert a shutdown and continue funding the government programs that so many Ohioans rely on.

“I will also continue to fight to stop taxpayer money from going to Planned Parenthood. Senate Democrats continue to protect Planned Parenthood, even after the release of deeply disturbing videos exposing their practice of selling the fetal tissue of babies who are aborted.
"I support redirecting the tax dollars from Planned Parenthood to community health centers that can provide the women's health services needed. In my home state of Ohio, we have nearly eight times the number of local community health centers compared to Planned Parenthood clinics. Although Senate Democrats blocked us from doing so last week, I will continue to push to fully defund Planned Parenthood in the coming days and weeks.

Hmmm...  Senator Portman is going to fight to stop taxpayer money from going to Planned Parenthood.  He is going to do so based on videos that even conservative news outlets acknowledge were intentionally distorted to give the FALSE impression that the organization is involved in blatantly illegal practices, in spite of the fact that not a single red state that's launched an investigation into the women's health care organization has found anything illegal in any of their actions.

Sen. Portman expanded on his R.C. statement to Neil Cavuto -
"I think it’s worth continuing to fight to defund. Taxpayer dollars should not be going to Planned Parenthood.  I think our legislation makes a lot of sense. It says, not only do you not send taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood, but those tax dollars instead go to community health centers — there are a lot more of them than Planned Parenthood clinics; eight times more in the state of Ohio for instance — and they can provide the women’s health needs that are legitimate, that are needed."

This is the sort of mansplaining that gets a lot of female danders up.  Community health centers can better provide for "women's health needs that are legitimate, that are needed."

First off, he does understand that abortion is, in actuality, LEGAL in these United States, right?  So, which female health need does he consider illegitimate?  Okay, I know - abortion services, which he clearly knows are legal & clearly believes shouldn't be.   He will not be deterred from totally stripping Planned Parenthood of its federal funding because he's been so pumped up by falsified videos that present a corrupted story, a story that no GOP state legislature has been able to find any evidence to support, and because only community health centers can provide women's medical services that are legitimate & needed.

Sheez!

Apparently, Sen. Portman is the sort of public servant that Carly Fiorina means when she talks about today's politicians living in a "fact-free zone."   tossed.

Is it any surprise to learn that Rob Portman is up for reelection next year?
