The sane choice

Fact: I hate being played for a schmuck.

Fact: Donald Trump is counting on millions of Americans acting like schmucks rather than reasonable men & women.

Fact: I was sixteen years old in 1968, too young to vote, but many of my older friends, even my family, sat out the election because of their furor at the Democrats for denying George McGovern the nomination that they believed was rightfully his.  And we got Richard Nixon.

Fact: I was well into voting age when friends & even family voted their ideals & checked off Ralph Nader instead of the totally-qualified Al Gore.  And we got George W. Bush, a decent man but not presidential material.

Fact: Donald J. Trump is so massively over-the-top unqualified, it doesn't register with voters as real.  It's like television & we can switch channels if he bombs.  Except we can't.

Fact: We've already seen this play out this summer, with people in England casting protests votes in favor of leaving the EU, only to discover to their horror that it had passed.  And that was technically a non-binding referendum.  An election is for four years, or whenever President Trump gets bored & resigns, leaving Mike Pence to fulfill all his promises & pledges.

Fact: A level-headed friend who is also not a fan of Hillary's pointed out that what we feel we know about HRC has been filtered through the media, which loved Bill but loathed her from Day One.  She reminded me of my own admonition - Be skeptical. - in regards to what is real.  Compare Secretary Clinton's worst storylines with ones that are cause to boast for Donald Trump.

Fact: Hillary has her personal e-mail server.  Donald Trump extolls dictators, admires their brutally effective ways of dealing with dissenters terrorists.

Fact: Hillary pilloried for open marriage. Donald is on his 3rd wife.

Fact: Hillary worked with the Children's Defense Fund, helping disadvantage youth.  Donald openly patterns his law & order campaign on Richard Nixon's, where RMN put the fear of Commies & The Other into Americans thrust from fluffed up memories of the post-war years & '50s into a nation they didn't recognize.

Fact: As FLOTUS, Hillary pushed to get CHIP passed, providing health care coverage to American children.  Donald left countless contractors & suppliers & other businesses strapped or bankrupt & chalks it up to being a savvy business man.

Fact: Slam her for being close to Wall Street, but Hillary has also worked tirelessly to change failed systems throughout her life.  Donald claims he's the best one to fix corrupt systems because throughout his life them to his advantage.

Fact: As a senator from New York, Hillary stood shoulder to shoulder with President Bush at the site of the Twin Towers & shoulder to shoulder with the firemen, police & emergency personnel who developed life-crippling & terminal illnesses because of working tirelessly at a site the EPA had (falsely) declared safe.  Donald remembers seeing a non-existent news report of thousands of Muslims in NJ celebrating the fall of the Towers.

Fact: Hillary is skewered for seeming robotic.  Donald proudly has no discipline & no filter.

Fact: Hillary has collected a wide circle of devoted friends, a small cadre of treasured confidantes, over the years, from college through Arkansas & even Washington.  Donald has business acquaintances & political cronies & family, but no one seems to be aware of real friends, confidantes, buddies.

ONE thing that both Hillary & Donald have in common is a DEEP desire to win, and to win THEIR way.

I will do my best in my way to help Hillary win.

The same would have been true in 2008 - I thought that John McCain was the wrong man for the country's times.  Sen. McCain would have been my pick eight years before, but by '08 was out of step with the times, locked into an American that had evolved where he had lost the maverick ways we needed entering the new millennium.  Much as I disliked her, HRC would have had my vote because she was the most capable & qualified.

Donald Trump is off-the-charts with his disqualifications for the presidency, so much so it literally doesn't register with a shocking number of people.  "He can't be as bas as he seems.  It's an act.  He really has what it takes & we will see it after he is inaugurated."  I've heard each of those & more justifications to vote for a walking talking tweeting disaster.

People talk about this election being about picking the "lesser of two evils."  That puts the two candidates on par, which they clearly are NOT.

Time to order my bumper sticker, put it on my car -

HILLARY  CLINTON    2016
For our children's future.

Because in 2016, Hillary Rodham Clinton is the only sane choice.
It's just that simple.
